Are you still a 3 man team? Becuase the better half of this area isnt suited for small groups. Not sure why you claim it a wasted space. Also yes there is events once you get appropriate faction. Simply search the boards and you can find lots of info on it already.

The 5dot pyramids are a bunch of fun. The loot is nice.

if you are looking to make money then quests are not the way to go. if you are looking for exp you might want to try a different area if you cant get a full group capable of doing the 5dots.
