Default Setting up a Pagefile for Vanguard

Dear Vanguardians:

A good way to up your fps by 5-10 frames is to setup a static pagefile. Here are the .05 cent instructions for how to do that in Windows XP if you don't know already.

1. View system info (select My Computer in left hand column)
2. View advanced Tab
3. Select Performance Settings
4. Select Advanced Tab
5. Select Change Virtual Memory

Here's where it gets tricky. Assuming you didnt' do this when you first got your computer your drive is messed up. So you'll need to defrag with a zero pagefile.

6. Select No paging file

Reboot Machine

1. Select All Programs -> System Tools -> Disk Deframenter
2. Defragment your C: drive
(Advanced Note -- if you have 2 drives you're better off putting your OS on one drive and your swapfile on another. What gets tricky is that you really don't want your application on the same drive as your swapfile either. So in the end leaving it onthe C: drive will suffice).
3. Follow the above steps to access pagefile info but instead of step 6.

Edit: you can defrag pagefile see 2 posts below.

Select Custom Size
Set inital size to 3072 (if you have 1GB of Ram) or 4096 (if you have 2GB of Ram). Set maximum size = to initial size (3072 or 4096).

Reboot machine.

Play Vanguard.

I 2nd this tip, pulled this one off the FoH board when you posted it Tad worked great, like he said just defrag first, you don't want 1000 litle file chunks spread out everywhere in your drive

You can defragment your pagefile!

PageDefrag

This is Mark Russinovich's pagefile defragger at its new Microsoft home.

Are there any downsides to doing this?

No, unless you somehow screw it up.

What? He isn't related to your guild? I see his sig and automatically think he is an officer of your guild or something. That sig should be killed if that is not the case...
